LIFE LATELY

Pantry Organization

Hi! How was your weekend? Mine was an equal mix of productive, restful, and fun. On Sunday, I made a long overdue run to Whole Foods to stock up on dry goods like beans and lentils. I love their bulk bins which seem to have such a huge variety of items. It’s the perfect way to try something new without committing an entire box of something. For instance, this time I found Saffron Rice! I had never seen this before and when I opened the case to take a whiff, it smelled so delicious. I instantly thought of making some kind of paella and bought just enough to try a test batch.

Once home, I laid out all the bags on the kitchen counter and noticed the beautiful color variations. I then got a sudden urge to display them like a rainbow in my pantry.  I spent the next two hours taking off labels from old glass spaghetti jars so I might use them to display my loot. The process involved a deep soak in hot soapy water, some elbow grease and a scrapping tool. Once clean I let them dry in the sun for a while.
After scrapping about 3 jars, I instantly realized that I would have rather watched some TV or read a book (since Asha was sleeping), but it was too late to back out (damn the rainbow!). The radio was keeping me company in all this, and I was able to channel my anger at some of the news in the scrapping so I guess it worked out well.
In the end, I did get my rainbow display but I give it about 2-days before they get moved around and covered up in the pantry.
So…did you partake in any pointless chores this weekend?
