8 miles today

Dupont Circle in Washington DC

I had an unexpectedly good day of running today.
On Tuesdays I run with City Sports on 19Th St NW.
The run starts at 6:30pm one block from my office. The 5 mile route loops through most monuments including the White House and my favorite, the Jefferson Memorial on the tidal basin.
But today I didn’t feel like waiting an hour and a half after work. So I hit the gym at 5:30pm and finished the 5 miles on a treadmill.
On my way to the metro however, I passed by the store and saw that the group was just about to take off. They saw me and asked why I was late. I didn’t have time to explain and before I knew it I was running down 19Th st with the rest of them.
I opted to do 3 miles instead of my usual 5. I saw fewer monuments, but it was good to be able to run and chat instead of trying to keep up with the boys who do the longer loop. It started raining at mile 2 and it made for the perfect cool down.
As an added bonus I ended up “winning” the post run raffle for a Nathan’s Elite 1 bottle pack. Not a bad day indeed.
