You know you are of a certain age when you go to an amusement park and wonder about everything other than the roller coasters.

Carowinds was an essential part of my American childhood. I was a season-pass holding thrill-seeker who didn’t shy away from the scarest of coasters. My kids don’t believe this given what a scardy cat I have become. Whatever!

During our recent visit this summer, I spent most of the day hanging out with the younger two who are more at my current speed of thrill skeeing. Dev who is still a thrill seeker (lucky for me!) handled the older two who are all about the crazy coasters! With Ajay and Ari, I saw parts of the park that I had never visited before – hello Snoopyland! Not only did I love every bit of it, I also thoroughly enjoyed the landscaping which I had clearly missed in all of my formative visits. The lush tall trees, the pretty flowers, the rocking chairs, it all made the park seem so much more enjoyable.

We even went to an indoor bubble show which made all of us so happy. It was incredible. Truth be told, I would have never considered going to it as a teenager because who the hell goes to a show in a roller coaster park when you could have your insides shaken a million different ways.
Lastly, being the people watcher that I have become, I had a fantastic time seeing the workers doing their thing. The teenagers checking my restraints so responsibly; others turning people away for not being tall enough; others still dancing their hearts out in the water parade. They all looked very content and happy doing what they were doing. I hope they are paid well and taken care of by the corporation.

In case you are wondering, the only crazy coaster that I found courage to ride was THE FLYING COBRAS. Would you ride it?
Overall, Our day at Carowinds was incredible! Even as a scardy cat! Can’t wait to do it again.
