I made some strawberry jam using our home grown strawberries that my children helped me pick. Wow, that sounds so idyllic, doesn’t it?

The strawberry season has been very good to us in our backyard this year. So much so that I had enough extra berries to try my hands at homemade jam.
I used Martha Stewart’s simple strawberry jam recipe that calls for just three ingredients – strawberries, sugar, and lemon. It is easy enough to do with a baby in hand, after you’ve cleaned and chopped the berries that is. Beginning to end took just under 20-minutes.

Because I suffer from never being able to follow a recipe exactly, I decided to add a small orange to the strawberries. Also, I didn’t have a lemon on hand, so I stole one from Dev’s mojito bar hoping he wouldn’t mind. (He doesn’t like strawberries and therefore wouldn’t indulge in the end product.)

It’s definitely not the norm in our homestead to do such things, but given how easy and yummy this was, I am not opposed to doing more of it! Thanks to my lovely husband, in a couple of years I will also have fig, plum, raspberries, and pears in our yard for the choosing. In the meantime, I have strawberries to keep me happy. :)
