I just learned that yesterday on Thursday April 8, 2021, the La Soufrière volcano has erupted in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Southern Caribbean. Devang and I visited this beautiful island in January of 2019. It was our last international trip before the pandemic. From what I can find in the news so far, no deaths related to the eruption have been reported and evacuation is in process. I hope and pray that everyone stays safe.
St. Vincent & the Grenadines lies just 20 miles southwest of St. Lucia. It is a member of the British Commonwealth since gaining its independence in 1979, which also happens to be the year of La Soufriere’s last eruption. Devang and I had an amazing time exploring this less hyped destination in the Caribbean. We spent most of our time on the main island, along with a day trip to the surrounding island of Bequia and Young Island. My guide and tons of travel pictures can be found here if you are interested in reading more. It truly was one of the best trips we have taken.
Praying that Mother Nature does not harm any lives this time. Sending lots of love to the residents of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
