Visiting Baby Chickens And Gardening!

As if I needed more reasons to reinforce my lets-live-on-a-farm fantasy, last week we visited one of Devang’s friend’s 70-acre Farm in Coats, NC. The farm belongs to Erin who is a nurse, and her husband Brian who is a police officer. Between saving the world and keeping a homestead, I am not sure when they sleep!

Their most recent acquisition included 30 or so chicks and we were lucky to get to visit them with the kids. Me being me, I couldn’t stop saying ohmygodtheyaresocute as I clicked a million pictures. My kids on the other hand looked at me like I had lost my mind, and then complained about getting their sandals wet from walking in the dewy grass (add loud sigh and eye roll)!

After listening to Erin describe all the work that goes into keeping a farm, I do admit that my long held dreams of owning chickens and goats was shaken a bit! May be I can outsource the hard part … to my kids!

And helping them get accustomed to their possible future, Devang put the two to work in the yard over the weekend. Their enthusiasm was a bit lacking at first but they came around when handed shovels and a big bag of dirt! And thusly, the fantasy lives on!
