MOTHER HOOD

Enjoying the Calm Before the Storm

Yesterday when I left my apartment, I felt the chill in the air and sadly realized that summer will be soon over. To make matters worse, later that evening I received an emailĀ from a professor outlining the first assignment due on first day of class in a few days. Wah!

School starts on August 25th. In addition to my full-time job, this semester I am taking 15 credit hours instead of the usual 6 in order to graduate by May 2009 . I’ve dragged this degree out long enough and I’m ready to see the end of the tunnel. 15 credits mean I have classes every single weeknight (except Friday) PLUS 10:00am-5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. At this point I can’t comprehend what I am getting myself into. It’s like standing at the bottom of a massive hill; you know the kind that is so steep that your face feels inches away from the ground?

Given what’s about to unfold I am surprisingly calm. I’ve spent all my nervous energy in running, cooking, and planning my to-be crazy days. My freezer is stashed with goodies to fuel my cravings on a short notice. My recipe box is full of quick dinner ideas. My running shoes are, well, ready to run during early mornings, or late nights. I’m also enjoying my last few lazy evenings in front of the TV and marveling at my ability to say “I’m bored“.

All that’s left to do now is wait. Wait to start my run….head down, knees high, big strides, one foot in front of the other. The finish line will appear in time.
