Austin PROPER + insensible weaknesses

I was lucky to be whisked away to the Austin PROPER hotel in Austin, Texas, to celebrate my 41st birthday. It was my first introduction to Austin, and to the PROPER hotel chain, both of which impressed me immensely. If anything, my only complain about the hotel is that it is so indulgent that you might not want to leave it to explore the rest of the city.

{ I have a thing for travel which you already know about. More specifically though, I have an even deeper thing for fancy hotels which you might or might not know about. Every sensible adult seems to have an insensible weakness – shoes? purses? cars? fashion? Mine is a fancy hotel. }

Blurb about the hotel:

Situated in Downtown’s Second Street District, Austin Proper Hotel and Residences is the newest luxury lifestyle hotel in Austin, just steps from Lady Bird Lake, the legendary Austin City Limits music venue and nearby boutiques. With inspiring interiors by Kelly Wearstler and culinary offerings in collaboration with McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality, Austin Proper offers 244 rooms and suites, a dedicated spa and fitness center, and 14,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces, including a rooftop pool deck & restaurant offering small-batch tequilas and sunset views. Anything less just wouldn’t be Proper.

Our 11th floor corner room had floor to ceiling windows with a beautiful view of downtown Austin and shower pressure that every overworked parent NEEDS. I loved our Aesop amenities (I like them even more than the Parisian Dyptique dare I say). The room-service breakfast was so tasty that I wrote a note to the chef after we got home to get a recipe that Devang I both loved.

Oh and the décor, I couldn’t get over all the wallpaper which is everywhere. The furniture too with all the wood and stone was to die for. I want to dress my home exactly like this hotel. I don’t think I have felt like this before about any other hotel’s décor. Oh and their tiny cocktail lounge called Goldie’s is where I left my heart. It’s so pretty and classy and cozy and beautiful! As if you needed any more reasons, their gym is also the best gym I have ever seen in a hotel (or ever?).

This is not a sponsored post. It is however a call-to-action post for all of you who are too busy and overworked. Please take a break and go see this lovely hotel.

Oh and thanks to Devang who really does know how to give the perfect birthday presents! = )

Please do ogle the gallery of pictures on the official website for AUSTIN PROPER because mine clearly don’t do the place justice. And with that, I hope you have a happy week ahead.

Also, what insensible weaknesses do you foster?
