I created these books when I came short in my search for fun Hindi books for kids
I was born and raised in Ahmedabad, India where I learned English, Gujarati, and Hindi starting at a young age. At 16, I immigrated to the United States with my family and settled in Charlotte, North Carolina where the most common question I received was, “did you know “Chika” means a girl in Spanish?”.
After graduating from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, career and travels took me all over the world, before I finally settled in Chicago with my husband. In all these years of assimilation I never realized how lucky I was to be able read and write in my native languages, until of course, when I became pregnant with my first child. The never ending cravings for Dosa (a South Indian food speciality) meant I made frequent visits to Chicago’s Little India on Devon Street. It all eventually brought back fond memories of what it meant to be Indian, and how my child would grow up in a world that was so vastly different than her own childhood.
When Asha was finally born, and then Arjun followed a couple of years later, I started looking for first-words Hindi books that were fun and whimsical. I found nothing of that sort however, and eventually made on up at home using my markers, craft paper, and glue. Others saw them and loved my idea which eventually lead me to create what you see today.
