When the second plane hit the World Trade Center, I was getting ready for class at UNC-Chapel Hill. While tying my shoe laces and flipping the channel to look for the weather, I paused and watched in disbelief as a plane slowly glided into the tower.
The memory of 9/11 has never quite left my mind. I can’t go to NY without going to ground zero. It feels disrespectful and it feels necessary to let that place know that I will always remember this part of American History.
Thankfully, since last night I can now attest to a more cheerful part of American History. And although I don’t intend to forget what happened on 9/11 ( I don’t think I ever can), I’ll at least have a better and more positive story to tell my kids and grand kids about what I lived through in my lifetime.
